About Us
Founded in 2011 by saxophonist, composer and proud native-Nashvillian Rahsaan Barber, Jazz Music City, LLC, is an independent record label dedicated to the presentation of Nashville’s most creative and compelling artists via recordings and live performances. The record label rocketed onto the national scene with its first release, Rahsaan Barber’s album Everyday Magic, which received the rare honor of selection as an Editor’s Pick in Downbeat Magazine along with much more acclaim from both critics and fans. In 2012, Jazz Music City released The Solo Sessions, a gorgeous collection of solo performances by acclaimed pianist Bruce Dudley, along with singles by vocalist Stepahnie Adlington (Tennesese Waltz) and hip-hop soul band The Megaphones (Drama Queen). In August of 2013, Jazz Music City released trumpeter Imer Santiago's critically-acclaimed debut album as leader, Hidden Journey. In the short time since its inception, Jazz Music City has presented concerts featuring more than thirty of Nashville’s most accomplished and beloved artists and bands including El Movimiento, Jeff Coffin, Bruce Dudley, Imer Santiago, Adam Nitti, Marcus Finnie, Roland Barber, Jody Nardone, John Birdsong and many more. In February of 2013, the record label assembled a “super-group” of Nashville’s finest jazz performers, billed as the The Jazz Music City All-Stars, and hosted a rare Nashville concert featuring internationally-renowned bassist Rodney Whitaker (Wynton Marsalis, Jazz at Lincoln Center). Jazz Music City continues to present Nashville’s premier artists, in hopes of both enhancing the city’s reputation as a hotbed of talent in all musical genres, and also bringing much-deserved attention and opportunity to the community of world-class artists who call Music City “home.”
