Hailed as  "fresh and first-class jazz by any standards" by All About Jazz's Chris May, John Alvey's 2024 debut release, Loft Glow, is a scintillating album which features a number of Music City's most celebrated performers, including trombonist Roland Barber, tenor saxophonist Joel Frahm and alto saxophonist Jovan Quallo.  Rounding out the rhythm section with Alvey are bassist Jacob Jezioro and pianist Matt Endahl.  Alvey's debut introduces listeners to a rare talent deeply reverent of jazz's soulful traditions but (thankfully) not confined by it.  Alvey's sextet deftly explores new material while celebrating the artistic aesthetic of hardbop giants such as Benny Golson, Duke Pearson and Art Blakey.
